5/22/2016 – Pneuma (Life in the Spirit): What is the Fruit of the Spirit?

Imagine your life as a glass full of liquid, and every time it gets bumped liquid spills out as it should. Now ask yourself what spills out. Is it love, patience, or gentleness? Is it anger, hate, or malice? What spills out is a direct indicator of what’s inside. In this series we are hoping to look at what it means to live “Life in the Spirit”, and to have a life that reflects the Fruit of the Spirit while receiving all that God has for us!

4/24/2016 – Second Chances

All of us like second chances. As a kid, I was the king of do overs! If the game wasn’t going well, let’s start again and maybe even change the rules this time. We want to succeed, but let’s face it sometimes we fail. But thankfully we serve a God of Second Chances.

4/17/2016 – Whistle While You Work: Work and Rest

There are many songs that have been written on the wonderful topic of “work”. From “Take this job and shove it.” by Johnny Paycheck, to “Working 9 to 5” by Dolly Parton the list is endless, and nearly all of them point out the negative aspects of work. Even Disney jumped in on the action, with a positive spin in the movie “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” with songs like “Whistle While You Work”, and “Heigh-Ho, Heigh-Ho, It’s Off To Work We Go”. Even the later song has had the words changed to “I owe, I owe, It’s Off To Work I Go”. In this series we are going to look at the value of work and celebrate our God Given privilege and responsibility for making positive contributions in the lives of others.

3/20/2016 – R.S.V.P.

R.S.V.P. stands for a French phrase, “répondez, s’il vous plaît,” which simply means please respond. In the late 17th, Century King Louis XIV would have extravagant parties at the Palace of Versailles, and it was customary to respond with a ticket to confirm you would be there so they would know how to prepare. In the 19th Century, columnist Judith Martin, known as “Miss Manners”, wrote of this procedure as polite way of reminding people of something that they should already know: If you receive an invitation, you should reply. This is how many believe the concept of RSVP has taken root in our culture today. The irony of something that should be understood, yet often gets overlooked. It’s easy to become complacent, callused, and careless. In the Bible we see a similar lesson on this very topic and we are going to explore how it applies to our lives.
